Which animal are found in Africa?

We can find the world's most spectacular animals in Africa. The tropical forest in the Century is home to many different kind of monkeys and gorillas. In the bush country or savanna live such splendid creatures like the elephants, lions, giraffes, rhino, hippos, zebras and many more.

Several spectacular animals of Africa have been reduced almost to extinction by hunters who call them 'Big Game'. But now, many animal are protected inside the safari parks, such as the Amboseli in the shadow of mount Kilimanjaro.

How do lionesses hunt?


'The lionesses' main prey is the antelope. But sometimes, they attract young giraffes weak buffaloes too. They hurnt silently, usually small groups, lying in wait for the antelopes at waterholes or creep stealthily through the grass. When they near their prey, they make a sudden sprint, then pounce, sinking their sharp teeth into their victims neck. The meat is so wholesome that one kill is usually enough to last a lion for days.

How do elephants use their trunks?


An elephant does all kind of tasks with its trunk. It use the trunk for feeding. The elephant pulls off grasses and leaves with it and stuffs them in mouth. It use the trunk to suck up water to drink or to spray itself clean. The trunk is the elephant nose too. It may often put its trunk in the air to sniff the wind. The trunk is even used for caressing baby elephants.

What is the different between African elephant and Asian elephant?



African elephant are usually bigger than Asian elephants. African elephants have bigger ear and longer tusks. The Asian elephant have a slightly humped back and just one finger - like lip on the end of their trunk, while the African have two. The African elephants dwell in hot, dry plains, while the Asian elephants live in shady forest.

Largest bird


Africa is home to the largest bird, the ostrich. An ostrich can reach

2.10 m tall. It cannot fly but can fast run. Also its long legs can inflict a heavy kick.

 Breads earner male lions with their big manes may look impressive, but it is the females or lionesses, who are the bread earners.

What is the height of a giraffe?



A male giraffe can grow up to 5.5 m tall. It is taller than any other animals. It has long legs and neck, a giraffe can feed on higher branches of the trees that other animals cannot reach.

What does a giraffe do to drink water?

Due to its long legs and neck, a giraffe has to either spread its front legs wide or kneel right down to drink water. But this makes it vulnerable to attract to lions.

What does hippo do?


A hippo spends most of its day in or near water. It only come out in night to feed for plants. Its walks or run along the river bed, often at amazing seeds, only coming up for air occasionally.

What is a wildebeest?


A wildebeest is a large African antelope. It is also called a brindled gnu.

How are the stripes on a zebra useful?

A zebra's stripes act as a camouflage. They blur the zebra's outline, like shadows of grass, especially when the zebra is moving slowly.

What are the kind of zebra

There are three kind of zebra : the plains, the mountain and Grevy's zebra. The Grevy is the biggest. It brays like an ass.
