Who were the first farmers?



EARLY PEOPLE MOSTLY LIVED in small groups. They moved around hunting animals and gathering food from wild plants. Then, about 12,000 years ago, some people learned to herd animals such as sheep and goats. Others learned to sow seeds. They started growing crops. All these events took place at different times in different parts of the world. The earliest farms were created by the people of the Middle East around 15,000 years ago. But there were farms long ago in China, India and Central America.

The development of farms led to the creation of the world's first great civilizations including the Egyptian known for its pyramids. The farms were along the River Nile. Which not only provided water, but brought silt during floods to an area that would otherwise be a desert.

What were the first crops?




Tre fist crops grown were wheat and barley. One of the oldest known variety of wheat oldest is called emmer. Vegetables such as per were also grown on early forms.

How did farming change peoples lives forever?

For the first time, people did lot have to move around. they could settle in one place. hey but the first villages followed by towns. At Jarmo in iraq, there ore the remains or 24 mud huts where 150 people lived around 11,009 years ago

 

 

What new skills did people learn?

Some people became skilled in things like building houses and food stores, weaving cloth and making pots. they also learned how to Use metals like bronze in the Bronze Age and iron in the Iron Age.

 

What were the first inventions?

After settling down, people began to make different Things to make life easier. They learned how to make pots from clay around 9,000 years ago. At about the same time, they learned how to grind grain into flour in shallow bowls called mortars using club-like stone pestles.

How did they plant seeds?

In the beginning, farmers planted seeds by dropping them in the holes made by Using a stick. Later on, they turned Over the soil a bit and Carved out long furrows to put the seeds in with a blade called a plough.

 

When was the wheel invented?

The early wheels were probably solid discs of wood cut from tree trunks. Later, the axle was invented-a rod that passed through a hole in the center of the wheel. By burning the axle, the wheel could be turned. By about 5,200 years ago, solid wheels made of short planks of wood bolted together were being Used in Mesopotamia in the Middle East. Before the wheel was invented, people must have moved heavy loads. Using tree trunks as rollers.
